MERCHANT'S NEST
Sustainability
Sustainability
Buy with intention. Keep what you love.
Our approach to sustainability is simple: reduce unnecessary excess, make more considered choices, and be transparent about the footprint that still exists.
Our approach
Less volume. More thought.
Merchant’s Nest is built around considered selection rather than constant churn. We would rather help you choose something you genuinely want to live with than encourage fast, disposable buying.
For wallpaper, made-to-measure production means the order is produced for the specific project rather than held as large amounts of excess finished stock.
What this means in practice
Small decisions that reduce waste.
Made to measure
Wallpaper is produced to the dimensions and specification of the individual project, helping reduce unnecessary surplus material and over-ordering.
Sample before you commit
Our sample-first approach is designed to help customers check colour, print and suitability before placing a full made-to-measure order.
Edited, not endless
We focus on artist-led, design-led pieces chosen for longevity of character rather than short-lived trend cycles.
Buy once, buy better
We encourage slower, more confident purchasing: fewer pieces, stronger choices and interiors that evolve rather than constantly being replaced.
Digital-first guidance
Where possible, we use digital shortlisting, room imagery and project information to reduce unnecessary physical sampling and avoidable back-and-forth shipments.
Transparency over claims
We will not label the business “sustainable” in a blanket way. We will explain the choices we make, where we can improve, and where an environmental impact still remains.
A note on shipping
International design has a footprint.
Our made-to-measure wallpaper is produced in South Africa and shipped internationally via DHL. That transport has an environmental impact, and we do not want to hide that behind vague sustainability language.
Our role is to make the overall purchase more considered: accurate specification, fewer unnecessary orders, sampling before production, and products chosen to stay in a space for longer.
Continuing to improve
As Merchant’s Nest grows, we will continue to review packaging, shipping, supplier information, materials, product longevity and the practical ways we can reduce avoidable waste. Where suppliers provide verified environmental certifications or material information, we will share those details rather than make assumptions.
