How To Measure
Taking measurements doesn’t have to be a stressful affair. We only need two very important measurements – the width and the height of your wall, in feet or inches. For the width, measure the horizontal distance of the wall from the right to the left hand sides. For the height, measure the vertical distance of the wall from top to bottom. Please also ensure that you demarcate specifically which measurement is the width and which is the height when you send us your specifications.
There are also a few important tips you should keep in mind:
– Make sure the wall has a smooth even surface.
– Make sure the wall does not suffer from damp issues.
– Double check by measuring both sides of the walls as some ceilings are not that level and neither are the side walls.
– If you are in doubt of your measurements, add a little extra, as an extra few millimetres are easy to trim.
– Use a tape measure and not a ruler or cellphone.
– Repeat the measurement process twice so as to be sure you haven’t made any mistakes.
– If you are providing us with your own image, the quality and size of your image will determine what size print job we can make of it.
Prepping The Wall
Your wall needs to be properly prepared for it to receive its new bespoke / custom-made wallpaper. If your wall is properly prepared, the wallpaper will be correctly applied, its adhesive will be far more effective and there will be no bumps or spots which will ruin the effect of your chosen imagery or pattern. If your wall is properly prepared, it will also make it easier to remove the wallpaper should you wish to change it in the future.
Please follow the guidelines below on how to ensure that your wall is ready for its new dressing:
– remove any wallpaper that which is currently on the wall surface.
– remove any hooks, nails or protruding services.
– remove any dirt, dust or residue on your wall with warm water and detergent.
– paint your feature wall with new emulsion white paint (optional).
– repair any flaking paint or nail holes in the wall.
Installing Your Wallpaper
We recomend that a professional installer is used to install your wallpaper. We insist that the installer uses the double cut method of installation.
Basic tips for installing our wallpaper: make sure your wall is clean, smooth and ideally of a light colour. There mustn’t be any fixtures or fittings present. If you have just recently painted your wall, allow one week drying time before applying your wallpaper. Make sure that you have help for the installation – having two people working together makes a big difference! And lastly, make sure you’re using the paper printed layout provided with your wallpaper. Arrange all the wallpaper panels in the correct order and you can get started.
– Remove everything from wall, bed, side tables etc
– Plot it out, make sure paper is sufficient. Mark roughly where each drop will go.
– Paste the wall, or paste the paper depending on material supplied.
– Using a non toxic, water based heavy duty wallpaper glue, in flake form to be mixed with water. Pattex.
– Align laser level at first Mark, starting from left to right.
– Apply first drop along laser level line. Smooth out all bubbles. Cut away excess paper from skirting etc..
– Repeat for next drop, overlapping join so pattern matches. Using a straight edge, do a cut-through join to make overlap a butt-join.
– Continue process till wall is complete.
– Wipe away excess glue on and around paper.
– Do a final once over to make sure no bubbles, and joins are somewhat invisible.
Removing Your Wallpaper
Should you decide to move premises, or install a new wallpaper on your feature wall, you may find yourself in the predicament of having to remove your previously installed wallpaper. This is a relatively simple process, which can be done with relatively no damage to your wall! For our standard wallpaper, simply use a bucket of water and a sponge, and wet the wallpaper panels from top to bottom, ensuring that the wallpaper is always wet. Begin to peel the paper slowly from the wall – always keeping the wallpaper wet. This process may leave some adhesive residues on your wall, but don’t stress – these can be cleaned with warm water, a sponge and detergents.
