The Merchant’s Edit: What I’m Drawn to Right Now

The Merchant’s Edit is not meant to be a list of trends. It is the opposite: a changing record of the rooms, patterns, colours and objects that keep pulling me back for a second look.

Right now, I am drawn to interiors that feel slightly unruly in the best possible way — rooms where not everything arrived at the same time and not every surface is trying to coordinate.

Deep, earthy colour

Olive, tobacco, ochre, burgundy, muddy pink and dark blue feel especially compelling to me. They have enough depth to make a room feel grounded, but they become far more interesting when mixed with unexpected brighter notes.

Pattern with a story

I like wallpaper that gives you more to notice the longer you live with it: birds hidden in foliage, strange geometry, painterly marks, oversized botanicals and motifs that feel closer to artwork than background decoration.

Objects with evidence of a life

A perfect room can become forgettable very quickly. I would rather see an old pot, a slightly odd lamp, a handmade basket, a piece brought home from a trip or art that makes you smile. These details create the sense that a room belongs to someone.

Contrast over coordination

I am increasingly interested in what happens when polished sits beside rustic, graphic pattern beside antique form, or something elegant sits next to something with humour. Contrast makes the eye move. It gives a room tension and personality.

That is the spirit behind Merchant’s Nest: not prescribing a finished look, but curating pieces that can help you create a home that feels unmistakably yours.
